The Art of Chase

Driving on Speedway Avenue in Venice Beach last week & saw Chase in action. As a public service,artist/designer Chase and Belgium transplant now living in Los Angeles, paints free murals around the world depicting young children with the text next to them saying: “Remember Who You Are”. The intent behind the mural campaign is to inspire people to think back and reconnect with a state of being that we all enjoyed when we were children, a state of being that was filled with joy, truth, love and wonder for the world around us. Furthermore, the “Remember Who You Are” campaign also reminds us that we should always remember who we are, where we came from and where we are going.

Opening Ceremony & GLCO

Venice Vidi Vici: Introducing Garrett Leight!
If you recognize his last name in the context of eyewear, well, you're on to something (you bookworm!). The son of Oliver Peoples founder, Larry Leight, has branched out this year to create an enlightened West Coast brand of his own–GARRETT LEIGHT CALIFORNIA OPTICAL.
Unlike many of his contemporaries, the Venice-based optician draws inspiration from that under-the-radar kind of radiance. (Think Arthur Miller, Hunter S. Thompson, or your local accidental aesthete.) Working within a vintage framework and putting a born-and-bred Bear Republic touch on each pair, Leight works to carve out an aesthetic that is instantly familiar yet undeniably individual.

Check out the collection, as well as some fun, sun-soaked video and photo outtakes from the GLCO lookbook shoot!

D e e p C r e e k

Me and a couple of friends decided to go on a hiking trip to a hot spring located in Hesperia, CA called Deep Creek. A cluster of natural hot springs in an isolated canyon in the high desert. We got a glow in the dark Nalgene bottle for our spirits at my favorite camping store and hit the road. This place has become heavily visited but we got really lucky. Only 2 young german travelers & a girl firefighter were there when we arrived & we had the whole place to ourselves. I was amazed.
